Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton shared an emotional message with supporters after helping the club to their first victory in European competition.
Crystal Palace made history on Thursday (21 August) as they beat Fredrikstad 1-0 in the Europa Conference League in the first-leg of their play-off tie.
Jean-Philippe Mateta scored the decisive goal for Palace, reacting quickly when Will Hughes’s effort that deflected off him and beat the goalkeeper.
The Eagles were without Eberechi Eze, who continues to edge closer to a move to Arsenal, while Wharton himself has been the subject of speculation with late interest from Manchester United.
However, Football Insider has revealed that Palace are unwilling to consider any offers for the Wharton under any circumstances, underlining his importance to Oliver Glasner’s plans.
With speculation around his future and Palace’s historic night in Europe, Wharton took the opportunity to send a message of thanks to the supporters.
The English midfielder posted on Instagram with his full attention on Palace following their historic European win and captioned his post: “Half way there, hopefully many more European nights at Selhurst.”

He has impressed ever since his move from Blackburn in February 2024 and has quickly established himself as one of the brightest young midfielders in the top flight.
The 21-year-old’s standout displays even earned him a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad, though he was ultimately left out of Thomas Tuchel’s final selection over the summer.
Football Insider reported that Manchester City and Tottenham have also been monitoring Wharton’s situation, but Palace are determined to fend off suitors, with any deal likely to cost upwards of £100million.

While Wharton appears set to remain at Selhurst Park, fellow Palace star Marc Guehi could yet secure an exit in the final days of the transfer window.
Football Insider revealed that Liverpool are hopeful of striking a cut-price deal for Guehi, with Palace valuing him at around £40million.
Guehi is understood to be keen on the switch, and with chairman Steve Parish admitting the club cannot afford to lose him for free, there remains the possibility of a late move before deadline day.
