The future of Tsimikas has been called into question this summer with Milos Kerkez expected to join from Bournemouth and provide further competition for the left-back berth alongside current first-choice Andy Robertson.

The situation, though, could change in the coming weeks with Robertson, who has 12 months remaining on his current contract, having emerged as a target for Spanish side Atletico Madrid.

Greece international Tsimikas - an £11.75million arrival from Olympiakos almost five years ago - has been linked with a number of clubs including promoted Leeds United.

But the 29-year-old has indicated he would not be averse to remaining at Anfield for the new campaign.

"It's definitely a temptation to play more," he said.

"But for me the 27-29 games I play every year in all competitions are more than playing 40 for another team and in another league.

"I'm happy here, for five years I've always been happy with these players I had by my side and with the jersey I wore.

It's very difficult to reach such a level, to play in 27 games in a season in a Liverpool shirt.

"If you think about it, not all players play 50 games, some play 50, others 10, others play five.

I think 27 games I played on average over the last four years is a good number.

"I would definitely like to play more, but from then on in this league, with this team I was always happy and I always gave my best, so I was okay with the games I played."

Speaking in a wide-ranging interview with Greece media outlet Sport 24, Tsimikas also revealed the Liverpool dressing room has not once discussed the potential impact of the 115 charges of alleged Premier League financial rule breaches on title rivals Manchester City.

"I have played 115 games in the Liverpool shirt, (and there are) 115 charges for City," he said.

"But I have never thought about it.

The players have never discussed City and the accusations, I don't even know what they've done, what they're accused of, I don't care.

"The only thing that interests me as a person and as a footballer is waking up happy in the morning and going to bed happy at night.
