Kostas Tsimikas might have dropped a subtle hint about his future with an Instagram post he shared off the back of Liverpool's pre-season friendly with Preston.

The Greece international lined up at left-back for the first half of the friendly at Deepdale, before Arne Slot made 11 changes at half-time, and Milos Kerkez took Tsimikas' place in the team.

After the game, Tsimikas shared a couple of pictures from the game on Instagram, alongside the caption: "Szn 6 ep.1 (Season 6, episode 1) D20." Tsimikas is entering his sixth season as a Liverpool player, and the caption could suggest he expects to stay for at least another season, despite the recent arrival of Kerkez from Bournemouth.

Liverpool currently has three senior center-backs in Kerkez, Tsimikas and Andy Robertson, and the likelihood is that one of Tsimikas or Robertson will leave before the transfer window closes.

Robertson was linked with a move to Atletico Madrid a few weeks ago but the Spanish club only wanted to sign him for a small transfer fee, which Liverpool was not willing to entertain.

Meanwhile, Liverpool won the friendly against Preston 3-1 courtesy of goals from Conor Bradley, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo.

The game was Liverpool's first since the death of Diogo Jota 10 days earlier, in a car crash in Spain, and tributes were made throughout the afternoon in Lancashire.

A moving live performance of You’ll Never Walk Alone preceded kickoff, while a wreath was placed near the away supporters by the home team.

Screens and pitchside LEDs lit up with heartfelt tributes to Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, who also died in the crash.

A minute's silence was also observed, while both sets of players wore black armbands.

After the final whistle, an emotional moment unfolded as Liverpool’s players, staff, and supporters came together as Jota's song was belted out by the thousands of Reds fans in attendance.

The players wore black armbands.

"I think his parents and Rute can be so proud of the player and the person he was – mainly the person.

So they should and will be very proud if they could hear what all his teammates and all the staff members would say about him.

"Second of all, I think our fans can be so proud about the players we have at this club
