Kostas Tsimikas looks destined for departure from Liverpool this summer after slipping to third-choice left-back at Anfield.

The 29-year-old Greek was completely omitted from Arne Slot’s 21-man squad for the Community Shield against Crystal Palace, with new recruit Milos Kerkez and vice-captain Andy Robertson selected ahead of him.

The situation grew more telling in Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth, where Tsimikas again failed to make the matchday roster as Kerkez started and Robertson featured on the bench.

Slot’s clear preference for the 21-year-old Hungarian – alongside the veteran Scot – means Tsimikas is now surplus to requirements.

Having played primarily as rotational cover since his 2020 arrival, Tsimikas has never started more than nine league games in a season.

With consistent minutes crucial at this stage of his career, a permanent move is the most likely outcome.

Clubs in both England and Europe have already expressed interest, and Liverpool appear willing to sanction a sale rather than retain a once-trusted backup.

And it seems one of one the interested parties are taking steps to make the signing a reality.

Alfredo Pedullà for Football.Italia has reported that a meeting is set for AS Roma’s directors today as they gather to discuss the finer points of securing Kostas Tsimikas from Liverpool

Despite plenty of interest from clubs such as Olympique Marseille, Roma have emerged as front-runners for Tsimikas’ signature.

The report states that Roma will explore a loan deal, potentially with an option to buy, to reinforce their defensive depth as they juggle Serie A and Europa League commitments.

Today’s talks will centre on loan fees, wage contributions, and the buy-option fee – details that could make or break the move.

The 29-year-old made only eight Premier League starts from 17 appearances last term.

The likes of Nottingham Forest and Leeds United showed interest earlier in the window, while Lille flirted with taking the Greek international before moving on to other targets.
