Liverpool appear poised to sanction Kostas Tsimikas’s departure before the close of the summer transfer window, with reports indicating the club is open to both permanent and loan offers for the 29-year-old Greece international.
Having joined from Olympiacos in August 2020, Tsimikas has served as dependable cover for Andy Robertson, but the arrival of Milos Kerkez and the continued presence of Robertson have left him firmly on the periphery of Arne Slot’s plans.
This was evident as he was omitted from the squad for both the Community Shield loss to Crystal Palace and the Premier League season opener.
With playing time expected to be limited under Arne Slot’s management, Tsimikas’s departure seems all but certain unless he can significantly change his standing.
Since joining the Reds in 2020, he has featured in 115 matches for the club, but has never managed to establish himself as the definitive first-choice left-back ahead of Robertson.
The 29-year-old made only eight Premier League starts from 17 appearances last term.
The likes of Nottingham Forest and Leeds United showed interest earlier in the window, while Lille flirted with taking the Greek international before moving on to other targets.
Liverpool are now open to loan proposals for Tsimikas, having initially hoped for a permanent transfer.
And it seems he could instead opt for a return to his former club, having not gotten the offers he’s wanted.
At least, according to reliable Greek journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos, who has reported that Tsimikas could opt for a return Olympiacos on loan, having not been happy with offers so far:
“If Kostas Tsimikas does not have the offers he wants from the Premier League or other clubs from Europe, returning to Olympiacos is/can be an option for him?
On loan,” he wrote on X.
Tsimikas is a well-liked member of the playing staff and is a bubbly personality in the dressing room.
The Greek Scouser will be sorely missed if an exit does materialize this summer.
