Liverpool’s left-back options are set for a shake-up this summer with Milos Kerkez is closing in on a move from Bournemouth for around £40 million.

For Kostas Tsimikas, who has long served as backup to Andy Robertson, the arrival of another young full-back raises fresh questions over his role at Anfield.

Since joining Liverpool in August 2020, Tsimikas has rarely displaced Andy Robertson as first-choice left-back.

Even during Robertson’s occasional absences – due to minor injuries or rotation – the Greek international has found it difficult to nail down a regular starting berth.

Leeds United have been credited with an interest in the 29-year-old as they seek ready-made reinforcements for their return to the Premier League in 2025/26.

Tsimikas is a well-liked member of the playing staff and is a bubbly personality in the dressing room.

His departure will certainly be felt by both his teammates and the Anfield faithful should he depart the club.

But according to the man himself, he has no plans of leaving Merseyside this summer.

Speaking in a wide-ranging interview with Greek outlet Sport24, the left-back revealed that he is happy at Anfield, and that playing 27 games for a club like Liverpool in a season is an achievement within itself:

“I’m happy here, for five years I’ve always been happy with these players I had next to me and with the jersey I wore.”

“It’s very difficult to reach such a level, to play in 27 games in one season in a Liverpool shirt.”

“If you think about it, not all players play 50 games, others play 50, others play 10, others play five.”

“I think 27 games I’ve played on average over the last four years is a good number.”

He added that he would like to play more, but that he is ultimately satisfied with his deputy role:

“I would definitely like to play more, but from then on in this league, with this team I was always happy and I always gave my best, so I was OK with the games I played.”

It does not sound like a player who is angling for a move away from Anfield.

Meanwhile, with Atletico Madrid seriously pursuing Andy Robertson, the Greek international may end up remaining as deputy to Milos Kerkez instead.
