Kostas Tsimikas placed Steven Gerrard ahead of Zinedine Zidane, Xavi and Kaka as he ranked some of the best players the world has seen over the last few decades.

Tsimikas was originally asked by Goal to do a blind ranking of five players, all of whom were adidas athletes, with Kaka going in at number two and Xavi going in at number three to kick things off.

Lionel Messi was the next name up and Tsimikas place him at number one, before Liverpool great Gerrard and Zidane were placed at number four and number five respectively.

At the end of the blind ranking, Tsimikas was asked whether he was happy with the order the players ended up in, but he said he wasn't.

Asked to rank the players again now that he know all of their identities, the Greece international kept Messi at number one, but moved Gerrard up to number two, with Zidane also being bumped up to number three, and Xavi and Kaka being placed at number four and number five respectively.

Meanwhile, it remains unclear if Tsimikas will stay at Liverpool beyond the end of the summer transfer window, despite there being no obvious suggestions that a move away is imminent.

It seemed likely that the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth would see either Tsimikas or Andy Robertson leave the club, but transfer talk surrounding the futures of both players has been surprisingly quiet.

Speaking in June, Tsimikas said the temptation to play more frequently elsewhere is there, but maintained that he is happy playing a bit-part role for the Reds.

“It's definitely a temptation to play more,” said the 29-year-old

“But for me the 27-29 games I play every year in all competitions are more than playing 40 for another team and in another league

Here I am on the Broadway of football.

“It's very difficult to reach such a level, to play in 27 games in a season with a Liverpool shirt

If you think about it, not all players play 50 games; some play 50, others 10, others play five.

“I think 27 games I played on average over the last four years is a good number.

“I would definitely like to play more, but from then on in this league, with this team, I was always happy and I always gave my best
