Kris Boyd has highlighted a pivotal moment in Rangers’ 2-0 defeat to Hearts which could mean the end of Russell Martin at the Ibrox.

There is a massively desperate and negative atmosphere in the blue half of Glasgow as Rangers fans were left furious by the performance against Hearts.

The defeat marked the first loss of the league campaign, extending the winless run to five matches as Rangers fans continue to call for Russell Martin to be sacked.

Martin hinted that he was aware of his uncertain future at Rangers in the aftermath of the bitter loss with former Gers player Boyd weighing in on the dire situation.

The ex-Kilmarnock striker lashed the Englishman over his appalling start to life at Rangers in the wake of another horrific showing.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (13 September, 5.50pm), Boyd delivered a brutal take on the current state of affairs, saying: “Terrible right from the start.

Rangers at home failed to lay a glove on Hearts.

“Topped off with the Hearts fans singing ‘you are getting sacked in the morning’ and Rangers fans joined in with it.

That is how bad it was.

“I don’t see anyway back from this for Russell Martin.

You can cut a new manager some slack if you can see some slight improvement game to game.

“But it is going the other way, it’s getting worse for Rangers.

No wins in five, sitting tenth in the league and it is pretty embarrassing to say the least.”

Football Insider verdict

When the club’s fans join in with the away support to chant in unison for the manager’s demise, it certainly feels like the former Saints boss’ time in Glasgow is nearing an end.

Hailed as the man to take the club forward in what was laid out as a huge project, the Englishman has failed to deliver.

An embarrassing elimination from the Champions League coupled with the Gers’ woeful domestic form has seemingly sent Martin to his doom.

Although, I was surprised the board opted to appoint the man who set up Southampton to be torn apart in the Premier League.

The same is now happening at the Ibrox as Rangers fans look on baffled by their club’s abysmal displays week-in-week-out.

In the coming games, if the ex-Swansea City manager cannot turn things around, he will almost certainly be axed and noted down in history as another failed manager for the Gers.
