Manchester City man Kyle Walker, currently on loan at AC Milan, has revealed what he knows about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s impending transfer to Real Madrid

The 26-year-old faced a mixed reception during his penultimate Anfield appearance, as sections of the home crowd audibly booed the departing right-back in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

This reaction followed just days after Alexander-Arnold confirmed his impending move to Real Madrid – a transfer the Spanish club is now working to finalize ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup in June.

It’s been reported that Madrid is keen to offer €1 million (£840,000) compensation fee to register him during FIFA’s pre-tournament window (June 1–10).

However, no formal offer has yet been presented by the Spanish giants.

If no agreement is reached, Alexander-Arnold could still join Madrid during the tournament’s secondary registration period (June 27–July 3), albeit missing group-stage matches against Al-Hilal, Pachuca, and Salzburg.

With £94 million in prize money at stake for the winners, it makes sense why Los Blancos want Alexander-Arnold on board as soon as possible.

Nevertheless, speaking on the Kyle Walker podcast, the City defender has claimed that Alexander-Arnold would have had “sleepless nights” thinking about the decision:

“He would have had very long, sleepless nights on what he had to do for his career.

The servant he has been for the club, for the trophies he has won, the player he has become, me personally, you have to say thank you and wish him all the best on his next chapter,” he said.

Walker added that part of what made the decision so hard is the love Alexander-Arnold has for the city – something he knows:

“When Real Madrid come knocking at the door, there are not many people who would turn that down.”

“For Trent, it would have been a very tough decision because I know the love that he has for not just the club but the city.

Kyler Walker then hinted at the off-pitch benefits that Alexander-Arnold has moved to Real Madrid for, mentioning the “whole package off the field”:

“There is going to be pressure to sign for this team?

It’s not just about playing football, it’s about the whole package on and off the field and I’m sure with his character as I know him from being in the international squad, he can do that.

“He has got his good mate Jude [Bellingham] there, who will guide him in the right way and I’d love to see a Scouser with a Spanish accent.”

Meanwhile, the latest developments in the Jeremie Frimpong “saga” suggest the Dutchman could end up at Anfield this summer.
