Kylian Mbappe is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of this season when his contract expires in June, however, the terms of his exit are yet to be fully agreed.

An official announcement is expected once the situation is finalised in the next few months.

The 25-year-old penned a new two-year contract in the summer of 2021 that included a 12-month extension clause for the 2024-25 season.

However, only Mbappe could trigger that extension, not PSG.

He has 244 goals and 105 assists in 291 games for PSG since joining the club from AS Monaco.

This season, he has made 31 appearances, netted 32 times, and registered seven assists across all competitions for Luis Enrique’s side who are top of Ligue 1 with 53 points, 14 points ahead of second-placed Nice.

Mbappe has been attracting interest from several clubs including Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Manchester City.

According to Spanish outlet Cadena SER, one of Mbappe’s representatives was in Manchester last Monday and met with several members of Man City before their Champions League match against Copenhagen.

The representative was even seen by several players from the citizen squad prior to Mbappe informing PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi of his decision, which became public on Thursday.

Cadena SER further stated that another representative of Mbappe, and even closer to the player who went to negotiate in Manchester, travelled to Leipzig and was present at Real Madrid’s Champions League game.

Last summer, Pep Guardiola ruled out a move for the French forward, claiming, “We will not sign Kylian Mbappe, he’s not joining Man City — all of you know where he wants to go.”

Per The Athletic, Mbappe was leaning towards joining Madrid but influential members of his entourage have been left unconvinced by the Spanish club’s offer, which is delaying the process.

It was also claimed that the France international has known since early January the conditions Madrid are willing to offer him and with his contract set to expire after June 30, they have been free to discuss terms as he is into the final six months of his deal in France.

Madrid’s proposal was reportedly lower than what was made available to him during the club’s previous negotiations over a transfer from PSG in May 2022, but it would still make Mbappe the best-paid player in Madrid’s squad.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti also refused to comment on the speculation surrounding Mbappe’s future.

“I understand it’s the topic of the day for you, but for us it’s tomorrow’s game [against Rayo Vallecano].

That’s what is on my mind,” he told reporters.
