Liverpool could find any future hopes of completing a transfer for Michael Olise scuppered by Kylian Mbappe.

The Reds have only just finished spending £445m on fresh talent this summer but there are already rumours of the next big plans in place.

Arne Slot's attack force underwent major change after winning the Premier League title with Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez sold to Bayern Munich and Al-Hilal respectively, then following on Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak have been drafted in.

Along with Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, and Rio Ngumoha, they will be expected to score goals alongside long-term talisman Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian, who has scored 246 times in eight years, signed a two-year contract extension at the end of last season, which will take his Liverpool career beyond his 35th birthday.

If 2027 is to be the year Salah leaves Liverpool, since the recent transfer window closed it has been claimed the next phase of the Reds' plan will be to source a long-term replacement.

In just one season he has already picked up a Bundesliga winners' medal.

Now the latest rumours would indicate he may be a future subject of Liverpool and Real's competing fascination.

This is not the first time Mbappe is said to have meddled in transfers over the break, with Reds defender Ibrahima Konate joking about the striker trying to get him to snub signing a new contract at Anfield amid links to moving to the Spanish capital for free next summer.

"He calls me every two hours!
