When Stephen Doherty first started experiencing blackouts he put it down to tiredness caused by his busy lifestyle working as a doorman for a nightclub, going to the gym and playing football three to four times a week.

In a message on the fundraising page, Deborah said: "Stephen just recently got engaged, and is also an avid Liverpool fan, not to mention one of the biggest inspirational lads I have ever met.

But when his symptoms continued to deteriorate, the 26-year-old went to the doctors and he was soon diagnosed with epilepsy.

Due to the size of the tumour and where it was in Stephen's brain, doctors decided it was too dangerous to operate.
