Nottingham Forest are making a late move for a player that Nuno Espirito Santo once called “unique worldwide”.

Few teams have overhauled their frontlines in the manner that the Tricky Trees have this summer.

Anthony Elanga joined Newcastle early in the window, and in his place, Omari Hutchinson, Arnaud Kalimuende, Dan Ndoye have been recruited, and James McAtee has also joined Nottingham Forest.

However, a 3-0 loss at the hands of West Ham on Sunday, 31 August, showed there is still massive room for improvement in the attacking department this summer.

Nottingham Forest are in talks to sign Roger Fernandes from Braga, who was previously of interest to Brentford and Chelsea.

But the search for offensive reinforcements continues, and the Midlands side may yet turn to a player who was once a favourite of Nuno’s when he was Wolves’ boss.

Nottingham Forest showed an interest in Adama Traore earlier in the window, but ultimately prioritised pursuing other targets.

However, Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto revealed on X that the Tricky Trees have returned with a late offer for the Fulham wide man.

He said: “Nottingham Forest is in talks with Fulham to sign Adama Traoré.

“Last-minute attempts.”

Traore has featured infrequently for the Whites, and has primarily been an option off the bench for Marco Silva.

However, with Fulham looking to sign several wingers in the closing hours of the window, the Spain international may look to link up with a manager who called him “unique worldwide” and that “there are not many players that can achieve these kind of performances” compared to the winger, during his time at Wolves [Sky Sports].

Football Insider Verdict

Nuno has recently been critical of the club’s transfer business, and The Athletic reports that the Portuguese boss has fallen out with Forest’s global head of football, Edu Gaspar.

As a consequence, the ex-Wolves boss had rocketed up to the top of most bookie’s favourites to be the first Premier League manager to lose his job this season.

However, Forest’s pursuit of Traore seems to signify that they are doing all they can to appease their manager.

Evangelos Marinakis is hardly known for his soft touch, but the Greek businessman seems to recognise that the loss of Nuno would be devastating for his side this season.

If signing an ageing Traore is what it takes to keep Nuno happy, then Forest should go all out for the Spanish winger.
