Mikel Arteta has given injury updates on Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final second leg.

The Gunners’ captain was substituted in the final moments of the match against Aston Villa, with Arteta subsequently confirming that it was due to a possible injury.

After the game, he told Sky Sports: “He had an issue, that’s why [he was taken off].”

When asked again in the post-match press conference, Arteta said: “He was feeling something.”

Despite initial concerns, Odegaard was seen participating in team training at London Colney on Tuesday, which has somewhat eased worries regarding his fitness.

Saka, who was observed limping in the latter stages of the match against Villa, has prompted questions to Arteta regarding updates on both influential players.

“Hopefully.

We’ve had less than 48 hours to recover from the game and we’ve had very little training, so we will assess them tomorrow and see how they are,” he said.

Given Saka and Odegaard’s participation in the training session at London Colney, it appears likely that both will start against Bayern at the Allianz Arena.

“A performance that puts us in the Champions League semi-final.

All the preparation have been to achieve that, and earn it,” Arteta said ahead game.

“We have been ready for 10 months and everything we did last season to start that journey in the Champions League after so many years, and tomorrow we have an unbelievable opportunity to make it happen.

“We’ve thrown the game away and the one we played a few days ago because regardless of that result it’ll have no impact on what’s going to happen tomorrow.

“We’ll refocus and start to build the confidence, trust and understanding for the performance that we have to put in tomorrow to beat them and be through in the tie.”

He added: We have to change it and the opportunity comes there – it’s a lot of things that we can do to write that story very differently tomorrow.

“It’s going to be about putting in a very, very strong performance, collectively and individually to earn the right to be in the semi-final.”

For Bayern Munich, Thomas Tuchel is contending with several injury concerns; however, he has confirmed the availability of a key duo.

“Manu [Manuel Neuer] can play and Leroy [Sane] can play if he bites his teeth

Serge [Gnabry] and Kingsley [Coman] are unavailable so Leroy has to bite his teeth,” the former Chelsea gaffer said.
