Arsenal have made one of the signings of the summer and filled a gap they have been “screaming out for”.

That is the view of Premier League legend Matt Le Tissier, who told Football Insider exclusively that their new signing could be “key” this season.

The Gunners bought Riccardo Calafiori, Mikel Merino, and David Raya last summer, with the majority of their fees being offset by the sales of Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah, and Aaron Ramsdale.

But after finishing 10 points behind Liverpool in the Premier League title race last term, Arsenal have splashed out this summer, signing the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, and Martin Zubimendi.

Finance expert Dan Plumley told Football Insider that Arsenal have no PSR concerns this year and the Gunners have spent accordingly in their quest for a first Premier League title in over 20 years, which has included one of the signings of the summer, according to Le Tissier.

This article contains exclusive comment from former Southampton and England striker Matt Le Tissier.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Le Tissier revealed that he thought Arsenal’s signing of Gyokeres from Sporting CP was one of his top three transfers this summer.

He said: “Arsenal have been screaming out for a striker for a long time, so Gyokeres was a must-sign this summer for Arsenal.

“They had to sign a centre forward of some substance this summer.

“I think Arsenal getting a decent centre forward in was key.”

Speaking previously to Football Insider, Le Tissier revealed that he thinks Bukayo Saka will top the assist charts in the 2025/26 season.

The England international now has a pure goal-scoring number nine to look for, as opposed to someone like Kai Havertz, who was much more of a facilitator.

Saka finished last season with 10 assists from just 25 games in an injury-hit campaign.

However, the 23-year-old will face stiff competition from Cole Palmer and Bruno Fernandes to claim the crown of the Premier League’s best creator.
