The mourning shows no sign of abating in the wake of the tragic deaths of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, as clubs from across Europe and beyond have publicly expressed their sorrow.
From Wolverhampton Wanderers to Premier League rivals, messages of condolence have been shared on official channels and social media.
Wolves hailed Jota as “adored by our fans, loved by his teammates and cherished by everyone who worked with him,” while Everton, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City offered their “deepest sympathies” to the Jota and Silva families and to Liverpool FC amid “devastating” news.
Even Fenerbahçe in Turkey stepped forward with a statement mourning the talented forward’s passing.
The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) announcement of a minute’s silence before Portugal’s Women’s Euro clash with Spain in Bern this Thursday at 20:00 BST marks the first official tribute by national authorities.
UEFA has approved the request, and the moment of quiet will also be observed at all tournament matches on Thursday and Friday.
In addition, Portugal’s women players will wear black armbands as a mark of respect for the fallen star and his brother.
Now Le Bron James is the latest figure to give pay respect to Diogo Jota.
Taking to X, the basketball legend said:
“My prayers goes out to his loved ones during this time!
YNWA JOTA!!”
James, who purchased a 2% stake in Liverpool FC in 2011 before converting it to a 1% stake in Fenway Sports Group, has been a vocal supporter of the club throughout his ownership tenure.
His investment came as part of a partnership deal where FSG became his chief marketing agency in exchange for the minority ownership position.
The basketball legend has visited Anfield on multiple occasions and has been photographed touring the stadium and meeting with players.
