Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Curtis Jones won’t be in Spain with the rest of his teammates tonight on the club’s official website, ahead of their game against Atletico Madrid.

• 'It’s mad, unbelievable': £7.5k-a-week ace shocked by what's happened to him at Liverpool • Gary Lineker has six-word reaction after hearing what Klopp said after Liverpool v Manchester City “Today he did only warming up and then did his stuff, but still individual training and we decided to leave him here to continue that.

Liverpool have travelled to the Spanish capital in the Champions League, but Jones is still searching for full fitness.

Diego Simeone’s side’s are always tough to break down, and Liverpool may have felt more confident of being able to do so if they had Jones’ incisive passing available to them.

“Unfortunately, Curtis was only with us in the warming up and will be here in Liverpool to hopefully make the final steps to full training.

And then hopefully he is ready for United.” Jones’ unavailability is a blow to Liverpool, although they coped well without him at the weekend.
