England interim manager Lee Carsley has highlighted the qualities that Curtis Jones possesses after his latest England call-up.
Carsley included the Liverpool midfielder in the Three Lions squad for upcoming games against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
This is the second time Jones has been called up this year.
He was included in last month’s squad after Kobbie Mainoo, Ezri Konsa, and Morgan Gibbs-White pulled out of international duty.
However, the 23-year-old missed his anticipated debut due to the birth of his child.
However, the Liverpool No.17 is poised to make his first appearance under Carsley, having been called up alongside club teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold for England’s upcoming Nations League games.
Jones is a player that Carsley knows very well.
Under the guidance of Carsley, Jones shone brightly in the England Under-21 team.
His performance was instrumental in the team’s success at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship, a tournament where Jones scored the winner in the final against Spain.
Carlsley previously commented on Jones’ talent, noting his pace, power, scoring, and assisting capabilities, as well as his defensive prowess.
“Curtis Jones would be up there with the most talented players I’ve worked with,” the England manager said last year.
“He’s got everything that you need as a midfielder.
He just needed to stay fit.”
What Lee Carsley said Curtis Jones
After calling Jones up for England’s upcoming games, Carsley stated the qualities the 23-year-old brings to the squad and reiterated his earlier comments that the midfielder is one of the best players he has ever coached.
“Curtis [Jones] is an all-round player,” he explained.
“He plays in different positions.
So he is a player we look forward to working with.”
After missing the first part of the season due to injury, Jones has recently enjoyed a good run of form?
The 23-year-old has started six of Liverpool’s last seven games in all competitions.
And so his England call-up is undoubtedly deserved for his improved form.
