Liverpool are enjoying a memorable and historic season.
Clinching their 20th league title against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, the players can now look forward to four guard of honours as they were confirmed champions with four games left of the season to play.
Defying the odds, with no one really predicting Liverpool to win the league, the Reds have pulled off the unthinkable, capping off a brilliant first season in charge for new manager Arne Slot.
The euphoria that followed that full-time whistle last week was the result of an outwards projection of relief that Liverpool fans could finally celebrate a title with their players.
A privilege taken away from them in 2020 due to the Coronavirus epidemic.
Currently boasting a 15-point lead at the top of the table and winning the title with fixtures still left to play, it has been a record-breaking season for Liverpool, and they have now broken yet another one, with the help of Leeds United.
Today, Leeds United won the Championship title with 100 points.
Burnley also accumulated the same points tally but Leeds won it on goal difference.
That is an impressive feat and sets a new record for the first time two teams have achieved that many points in Championship history.
The club will be back in the topflight after a two-year absence after beating Plymouth Argyle 2-1 today but that won’t be the focus for Liverpool fans.
What is interesting about Leeds United’s triumph today, is that this is the fourth season that both Leeds United have won the second tier and Liverpool have won the topflight, after winning both respective titles in 1963-64, 1989-90, 2019-20 and now 2024-25.
That is now the all-time English record for the most times a specific club has won the second tier at the same time as another also won the topflight.
Liverpool will be hoping to move away from the norm next season, as they look to retain the Premier League title without Leeds United’s help this time.
