Leeds United are reportedly keen on signing Liverpool defender Nat Phillips ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

Phillips has been at the club since 2019,  and has struggled to cement his place in Jurgen Klopp’s plans this then

He has spent time on loan at VfB Stuttgart, Bournemouth, Celtic, and most recently Cardiff City – where he is at presently.

The Englishman struggled to make his impact felt at Celtic, making only 8 appearances from August 2023 to January 2024.

Now at Cardiff City, on loan, he recently revealed that he had ‘conversations’ around his future at Liverpool:

“Any time you move clubs, a lot is up in the air.”

“I’ve done it a few times with loans, so I would say I’m more accustomed to it than some people are.”

“I know how to do it.

I know Cardiff now and I’ve done that.”

“I’ve played regularly so that’s played in my favour.”

“Any time a player is moving they want to know who the coach is going to be and whether or not you’re going to be a player for them.”

“I had a brief conversation with the loan manager at Liverpool.

Football is a game of a lot of uncertainty generally anyway.”

No Liverpool supporter will overlook the crucial role Nat Phillips played during the injury-ravaged 2020/21 season.

Paired with Rhys Williams, Phillips was instrumental in securing a UEFA Champions League spot for Liverpool against the odds.

Now at 27, he is reaching an age where he may seek stability at a club and to be playing regular minutes without having to look over his shoulder.

It’s evident that his long-term prospects at Liverpool are limited, even moreso now that Jurgen Klopp will be departing at the end of the season.

The rise of Jarell Quansah has also diminished his opportunities at Anfield.

Furthermore, the fact that Fabrizio Romano suggested that Liverpool are already focusing on defenders for the upcoming transfer window, it seems Phillips has no place at Anfield anymore.

Leeds United interest

Leeds United are keen on signing Nat Phillips according to Sunday’s print edition of the Mirror (via TeamTalk).

Leeds are currently in an intense Championship play-off race as they try to reestablish their Premier League credentials.

However, it is said that they will try for Phillips whether they get promoted or not.

Spurs man Joe Roden is currently on loan at Elland Road, and in the event that they cannot make the Welshman’s deal permanent – Phillips is believed to be an enticing alternative.

Interestingly, Liverpool could also want one of Leeds United’s players in the form of Crysencio Summerville.

Arne Slot, who is set to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool boss this summer is reportedly ‘wild’ about the Leeds United youngster. 

The 45-year-old manager does share a connection with the 22-year-old Dutch player.

The current Feyenoord manager has been repeatedly linked to the Whites’ standout player over the past year.

Indeed, he had a keen interest in bringing Summerville to the club during the winter transfer window.

However, at that time, Feyenoord found Summerville’s price tag to be too high.

Perhaps the Reds would be able to whittle down the price of Summerville if they were to make Leeds United’s life easier pursuing Nat Phillips.
