Leeds United have been rocked by the news that versatile midfielder Ethan Ampadu will be absent through injury until at least the international break.

The Wales international featured for 78 minutes as Leeds beat Everton 1-0 in their Premier League opener on Monday, 18 August.

Daniel Farke’s men are set for a tougher challenge than the one provided by the Toffees when they take on Arsenal on Saturday, 23 August.

Meanwhile, Leeds have signed Noah Okafor from AC Milan, further signalling Farke’s intent to keep his side in the Premier League.

The Elland Road faithful are well accustomed to the fact that Ampadu is a key figure for the West Yorkshire outfit.

Meanwhile, Leeds statistician Jonny Cooper shared on X on Thursday, 21 August: “The 1-0 win over Everton was the 25th consecutive league game without losing for Ethan Ampadu – a new Leeds United record by a player outside of the Revie era.

A big blow to lose him.”

Farke’s side were already in for a tough battle to acclimatise to the Premier League but the midfielder’s absence will only make matters more difficult, which has been epitomised by the stat shared by Cooper.

Losing such an important player, who made 32 appearances across all competitions as the Whites won the Championship title, would never be a welcome event for Farke.

It is no surprise that Leeds supporters have been devastated by Ampadu’s injury.

Meanwhile, the former Chelsea man’s setback could hardly have been timed worse as the West Yorkshire club look to build on the momentum they built with their triumph over Everton.

Furthermore, Leeds could struggle against Arsenal, who will be keen to make it two wins from two after beating Manchester United on Sunday, 17 August, while Viktor Gyokeres must be eager to score in his first Premier League appearance at the Emirates Stadium.

In their next Premier League game after travelling to North London, Farke’s side head to Newcastle United, who, like Arsenal, secured Champions League qualification last term.

Elsewhere, former Whites goalkeeper Paul Robinson has backed Manor Solomon to return to Elland Road in an MOT Leeds News exclusive.
