Leeds United, Wolves and Leicester ar3le set to miss out in their pursuit of Josh Brownhill after he agreed a deal to join Saudi Pro League outfit Al Shabab.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the 29-year-old’s future amid interest from Premier League and Championship clubs.

However, reports have since claimed the former Burnley midfielder is set to put pen to paper on a deal which will see him earn over £100,000 per week in the Middle East.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider last month that Leeds had joined the race to sign Brownhill, with Celtic also keen.

The free agent made 42 league appearances for Burnley last season, scoring 18 goals before deciding to move on upon the expiry of his contract, putting clubs on alert.

Alongside the likes of Leeds, Wolves and Leicester, Everton and West Ham have also expressed an interest this summer, but all now look set to miss out.

Football Insider revealed on 2 August that Celtic felt they had an advantage to sign Brownhill with the allure of European football which their rivals couldn’t offer.

However, a move to the Saudi Pro League will see the midfielder earn more money than any of his offers from England or Scotland during the summer.

O’Rourke explained that it had been a surprise that Brownhill was yet to make a move given the level of interest, but his future finally looks set to be resolved.

“There will be movement soon,” he told Football Insider.

“I was surprised, especially in the Brownhill situation, that he hadn’t been picked up already.

“He had a great season with Burnley last year, picked up so many goals and assists to help them win promotion and then obviously turned down a new contract.

“He’s just bided his time, there has been a lot of interest from the Premier League and the Championship.

“Wolves have showed a bit of interest recently and Leicester as well, he’s been one of the most in-demand free agents available.

“Now it looks like he’s going to get his big-money move to Saudi Arabia.”

Leeds endured a frustrating end to the transfer window, missing out on a number of key targets and leaving multiple positions weaker than they had planned for.

Football Insider revealed on 24 August that Daniel Farke wanted to sign four new players before the deadline in a winger, attacking midfielder, left-back and right-back.

The arrivals of Noah Okafor and James Justin saw them strengthen two of those positions, but there is a feeling of disappointment lingering at Elland Road.

Particularly after the club missed out on a late deal to sign Harry Wilson from Fulham, with a wide creator having been key for them all summer.
