Leeds United look set to sanction the departure of Isaac Schmidt following the signing of James Justin.

The Whites announced the capture of versatile defender Justin — who is two-footed and can play on either flank — from Leicester City on Monday, with BBC Sport reporting a £10million fee.

Despite his adaptability, Justin is expected to primarily operate as a right-back for Daniel Farke.

And with Leeds also having Jayden Bogle to operate in that position, this latest move could spell the end of Schmidt’s time at Elland Road.

Schmidt joined Leeds from St.

Gallen in his native Switzerland last summer, but has struggled to hold down a place under Farke.

The three-time international played just 14 matches across all competitions last season, with his 12 Championship appearances totalling zero starts and just 71 minutes.

What’s more, he is yet to feature in a matchday squad this campaign.

German outlet Bild report that Werder Bremen have been pushing to sign Schmidt all summer, with the Bundesliga outfit still in contact with Leeds.

Schmidt still has three years left to run on his contract at Elland Road, and with two players now ahead of him in the pecking order, Leeds will surely see this as an opportunity to recoup some sort of fee for the 25-year-old full-back.

Leeds have now signed 10 players this summer, but they’re not done yet.

Football Insider transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke recently revealed a four-man transfer plan for the Whites following their capture of Noah Okafor.

One of those targets was someone to push Bogle at the right-back position, with Justin’s arrival now ticking that particular box.

However, according to O’Rourke, Leeds remain in the market for a goalscoring midfielder, another winger, and a left-back.

Justin is vastly experienced as a left-back, so Farke already has a solution there if he wants to allocate more budget to attacking areas.

And with Leeds failing to score from open play in two games since their Premier League return, supporters will be keen to see the forward line bolstered further.

Following a 5-0 thrashing away at Arsenal, Leeds travel to Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, before hosting Newcastle in the Premier League.
