Daniel Farke may finally get his wish of sealing a move for Jonathan Rowe after Leeds United’s interest in the winger last summer.
Football Insider revealed last summer that Leeds had lost the race to Marseille for the former Norwich City star, having seen the winger as a replacement for the departed Crysencio Summerville [The Athletic].
Summerville was incredibly important to the Whites during the 2023/24 campaign, notching 21 goals and 10 assists before earning his Premier League move, and the club have since been unable to find his permanent successor.
Manor Solomon, who could re-sign for Leeds, Paul Robinson told Football Insider, was an instant hit at Elland Road on loan from Tottenham, and with the potential for his return, it is clear that the left-wing spot is still troubling Farke.
Instead of turning back to Solomon, who likely has a pricey transfer fee attached, Leeds could look to swoop in for Marseille’s Rowe, just one year after failing to secure his signature from the Canaries.
According to The Times (19 August), the 21-year-old has been placed on Marseille’s transfer list due to a dressing room bust-up with Adrien Rabiot while Roberto De Zerbi’s side facing defeat against Rennes on Friday, 15 August.
It was the winger’s first appearance as a permanent signing, having been loaned out to Ligue 1 initially last season, and while there is a fine line between passion and dissent, this could give Leeds the perfect opportunity to pounce.

The left-wing spot is clearly still vacant, or at least being covered by Willy Gnonto, who spent much of last season in a central role, and if Rowe can recreate his 2023/24 season, he would thrive at Elland Road.
Thomas Frank appears to have made a final decision on Solomon‘s future, but a return to Elland Road, either on loan or permanently, could be difficult for the Whites since it hasn’t happened already.
Of course, Farke’s side kicked off their Premier League campaign with a vital 1-0 win over Everton on Monday, 18 August, but there was a clear lack of end product until Lukas Nmecha tucked away his penalty.
Rowe could certainly help increase the talent in the forward line, alongside Joel Piroe, Dan James, and Anton Stach, especially if he can relive his former days at Carrow Road.

Despite only starting a handful of games in Ligue 1, he managed to notch three goals and three assists, and looked to be quite the signing for the French giants.
All of the hope surrounding the England Under-21 international has come crumbling down, however, and if Leeds are to benefit from Marseille’s decision, they need to act quickly.
