Legends Galore, AC Everywhere and Fishing With Fowler | 25/26 Pre-Season Tour

What a tour.

It really did have everything from player exits and arrivals, transfer rumours, injuries, brief lift encounters with record transfer signings, a host of Liverpool legends and of course, that boat ride with God himself, Robbie Fowler.

Whilst there was always scope for a busy fortnight across Hong Kong and Japan, it was nigh on impossible to prepare for the signing of Hugo Ekitike, the sale of Luis Diaz and growing Alexander Isak speculation, all while attempting to keep track of the tour itself.

Unawarded: The Missing Medals of Liverpool Legends | REDMEN TV DOCUMENTARY

Day one could easily have been the pinnacle as we shared the room with King Kenny, but it was far from after the Lord Mayor’s show from there as every single day brought a new level of enjoyment, all set to the backdrop of the stunning Hong Kong scenery plus the passionate Liverpool fans who acted as a constsnt reminder of the sheer size of the football club we all love.

Interviews brought the intrigue, quickfire questions provided the fun, but it was the accommodating nature of those hosting that stole the show, although a chance encounter with Trey Nyoni and record arrival Florian Wirtz in the team hotel lift threatened to top the lot.

In truth, whilst all of Kenny, Rushy, Lucas, Sami, Jerzy and Niamh will forever hold a special place in my heart for their roles in an unforgettable tour, spending the day sightseeing on a boat tour and visiting two pandas with Fowler may never be beaten.

Robbie Fowler takes Redmen TV on hilarious tour of Hong Kong!

As is often the way with pre-season tours, especilly ones in such a vastly different time zone, we were indebted to the journalists – and the AC for other reasons – on the ground for keeping us across all the market movement and as such we inlisted the help of Lewis Steele, Paul Gorst and James Pearce in some rather more exotic settings than the Redmen TV studio, albeit in itslefs quite the venue these days.

Within the confines of the team hotel it was all business for The Reds, rarely venturing out into the humidity of Hong Kong unless it was for early morning or late night training, choosing the latter for the open session at the Kai Tak Stadium, a session that saw 25,000 adoring fans in attendance, plus one Hugo Ekitike, some minutes after touching down,

Harvey Elliott and Jeremie Frimpong found time to chat on their way out of the Kai Tak, both of whom were feeling the effects of the heat…however it was yet more fuel to the Isak fire that really caused the temperature to rise in the press room as the Swedish striker was seemingly becoming more and more of a viable option for The Reds.

Exploring Tokyo & Attending an LFC Foundation Event | Tokyo Vlog

Despite defeat at the hands of AC Milan in the blissfully roof-closed AC’d Kai Tak, both Arne Slot and Virgil van Dijk remained in good spirits post-match, with the boss telling us the new vice-captain had been decided and Virgil discussing the importance of helping the new faces settle.

The good vibes continued for us as well, as we ended the night pitchside to finish up our day’s work with an assortment of retro Liverpool tunes to accompany us; it didn’t really get much better.

The following day, it was onto Tokyo for The Reds, albeit already a Joe Gomez down and soon to be Luis Diaz-less, the arrival of Ekitike had added a new lease of life to everyone on tour.

Day one provided ample time to explore the sights before heading to the British Embassy for an LFC Foundation activation containing Mighty Red, Niamh Fahey, Ian Rush in a Komono and a massive Tuna fish, obviously.

However, open training brought about questions and answers in equal measure as Alisson Becker’s no-show was confirmed as a return home due to personal reasons.

On the pitch, this time without any AC to save them, Wirtz shone, Gravenberch practised his long throws, and to everyone’s delight, Alexis Mac Allister was back!

WIRTZ SCORES HIS FIRST LIVERPOOL GOAL | Yokohama 1-3 Liverpool | Japan Matchday Vlog

With a rare afternoon off confirmed, we took the opportunity to explore what Tokyo had to offer inckuding the world’s largest pedestrian crossing in Shibuya, some local cuisine which invovled sitting on the floor to eat in a restaurant, the remarkabke views and structed that is the Tokyo Tower, plus inevitably, an encounter with with Migthy Red at the pop up LFC Store in the heart of the city.

Our final night coincided with gameday, a meeting with Yokohama Marinos in the Nissan Stadium, a venue used for the 2002 World Cup final and would now play host to Arne Slot’s new-look Premier League champions.

Having struggled with the pitch in the first half, which won’t live long in the memory, it was the impact from the bench of Trey Nyoni, Curtis Jones and Rio Ngumoha in particular that sparked Liverpool into life to complete a 3-1 comeback win.

Ian Rush on Liverpool’s summer spending and forward options!

After the match, Slot was once again in positive spirits, praising the impact of those aforementioned subs whilst also fielding questions on the main attraction of the evening, Wataru Endo, who fittingly wore the captain’s armband in the closing stages back in his hometown.

So after 11 days, five flights.12 interviews, six shows, two matches, two training sessions, two post-match press conferences, 10 daily vlogs and four events, it was finally time to embark on the 24-hour round-trip home, bidding farewell to Asia and what can only be described as the trip of a lifetime.

It is truly impossible to cram in all our experiences and memories in one written article, but all that’s left to say is that this was truly one hell of a tour, with some of the best experiences imaginable, in some of the best locations imaginable.
