German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig have initiated talks with Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott as they seek to replace Chelsea-bound Xavi Simons this summer.
According to multiple reports, Leipzig's interest in Elliott stems from their need for a creative midfielder after losing Simons, who impressed last season but now appears set to join Chelsea. RB Leipzig have started preliminary discussions with Elliott’s representatives, identifying the English midfielder as a strong tactical fit for their attacking style.
As of now, these conversations remain primarily on the player side and no advanced negotiations with Liverpool have occurred yet. However, Leipzig’s growing interest signals their intent to pursue a deal. The German club is known for developing young talents and offering them more consistent first-team opportunities—a potentially appealing factor for Elliott, who has struggled with limited playing time at Liverpool due to intense competition.
Liverpool, under new manager Arne Slot, is undergoing a squad rebuild that has seen the arrival of new players, pushing Elliott further down the pecking order. Consequently, Elliott is believed to be keen on moving to secure more regular first-team appearances.
Financially, Liverpool reportedly value Elliott at around £40 million, a price Leipzig would need to meet or negotiate. While RB Leipzig's interest is firm and progressing, no formal transfer offer has yet been submitted to Liverpool.
Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has described Elliott as an “exceptional” talent, highlighting the player's high potential despite his current challenges securing regular minutes at Anfield.
