Liverpool are in the market for a new striker this summer, and Hugo Ekitike is one rumoured option for the Reds.

The Eintracht Frankfurt centre-forward has been in fantastic form this season, with Ektike scoring 22 goals and registering 12 assists in all competitions for the Bundesliga side, who secured UEFA Champions League qualification over the weekend.

As a result of the 22-year-old attacker’s form this season, Liverpool are now interested in signing Ekitike, though Frankfurt’s £85m asking price for the former PSG striker could prove to be a sticking point for the Reds.

And Frankfurt’s sporting director has now hinted if he believes Ektike will leave the German side after his impressive performances this year.

Speaking to Sport1, Frankfurt director Markus Krosche admitted that Ekitike could leave this summer given how much the youngster has developed this season, with the striker likely to command plenty of interest beyond Liverpool during the transfer window.

Although Alexander Isak remains Liverpool’s top striking target, Frankfurt’s openness to sell Ekitike could be appealing for the Reds, especially with how much cheaper the Bundesliga star could be when compared to the Premier League marksman.

Krosche said on Ekitike’s future: “He’s one of the most interesting strikers on the European market.

Hugo has to decide that, I’m glad we have him.

If he decides otherwise, it’s our belief that if a player develops faster than us, we let him go.

“Hugo is an exceptional player who played a major role in our qualification for the Champions League.

He certainly still has a lot of potential for development as he’s only 22-years-old.”

Ekitike’s form has been sensational for Frankfurt this season, with the striker establishing himself as one of the best young players in Europe and developing his game to such a level where he would not look out of place in most top sides on the continent.

And for Liverpool, Ekitike must become their new top priority for the striker position, with the France youth international simply too good an option to pass up on this summer, especially with Isak likely to remain a Newcastle United player.

Indeed, Arne Slot has shown this season that he can get the best out of Liverpool’s attackers, and Ekitike can be the Dutch manager’s latest project, where the 22-year-old can become a Premier League superstar for the Reds.
