One Sporting legend may have already seen into the future, with Manuel Fernandes having tipped Gyökeres to move to Liverpool in the near future.

The Swedish striker has hit stunning form since parting ways with Coventry City last summer, leading to clubs across Europe being linked with the player.

Gyökeres, 25, signed for Sporting in a deal worth around $22m (£17m/€20m) in July and has since gone on to score 36 goals across his 44 appearances for the club, as well as adding a further 16 assists across these outings.

The player is now being heavily linked with a return to England in the near future given his strong form in front of goal, after Liverpool's Premier League rival Chelsea was linked with a move during the January transfer window.

Speaking to Record in December, Gyökeres commented on his future in Portugal, saying: "I think it's a bit like when Sporting came in to sign me.

That is all."

Despite his current commitment to the club after joining less than a year ago, Gyökeres has already been tipped to complete a move to a 'big' team such as Liverpool or Bayern Munich by Sporting legend Fernandes, if he was to leave the José Alvalade Stadium.

If you have to leave, let it be to a big club, like Liverpool or Bayern Munich.

However, given the recent investment into Darwin Núñez in 2022, it is unlikely that the Reds would purchase another striker like Gyökeres so soon, especially given the fact the rumoured figure is around $92m (£73m/€85m).
