Ally McCoist names the four best signings in the Premier League this season

Ally McCoist has now named a player from both Liverpool and Arsenal when deciding his four best Premier League signings this season.

Prior to Cole Palmer’s electric form for Chelsea over the past few months, it almost felt like the award would be a fairly straightforward one.

Micky van de Ven has been almost flawless for Tottenham Hotspur since he arrived, proving that he is worth much more than the £43m Spurs paid.

And then across north London you have Declan Rice, who is still trying to lead Arsenal to a first league title in almost 20 years.

But having scored a mesmerising four goals last night, taking his tally to 20 for the league season, Palmer has now surely won the award.

It would certainly be interesting to hear what those at Manchester City think of his form right now, and whether there are any regrets there.

That being said, Ally McCoist was pretty hot on Cole Palmer when speaking on talkSPORT this morning, as you may expect.

But as well as mentioning the Chelsea man in his four, McCoist also put a Liverpool player in the mix.

Ally McCoist says Alexis Mac Allister has been one of the signings of the season at Liverpool

McCoist named four players who could be in the running for the award, but ultimately thought Palmer would now be incredibly tough to beat.

He explained: “Let’s be honest about it, not that I’m saying competition isn’t fierce, but I think he is out on his own.

“What else have we got? Micky van de Ven, who Saturday aside, has had an excellent season.

“He has missed a good bit of it through injury but he has been terrific. Declan Rice has been fantastic. Mac Allister at Liverpool is having a very good season. But dear me, Cole Palmer.”

Of course, you won’t find too many fans arguing with any of those choices.

Ally McCoist is right to include Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven, who certainly doesn’t deserve to be written off after one poor showing.

And in truth, Arsenal’s Declan Rice and Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister should still be in reckoning in anyone’s mind.

Both will still be hoping to inspire a comeback in the title race, believing that Man City can still drop points.

All that being said, Trent Alexander-Arnold has just claimed that Liverpool sold a player who was similar to Cristiano Ronaldo
