Carney Chukwuemeka has finally completed a permanent departure from Chelsea as Enzo Maresca also prepares for life without Levi Colwill.
Chelsea‘s increasingly bloated squad has been cut down to size over the course of the summer transfer window, with over £250million earned in transfer fees and no less than 13 fringe players shipped out.
A further five first-team players have been sent out on loan including Mamadou Sarr, Kendry Paez and Mike Penders all to Strasbourg, but several other players also face uncertain futures at Stamford Bridge.
Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell and Axel Disasi make up the group of players stripped of squad numbers and placed in the ‘bomb squad’, but Disasi’s future could be subject to change after Colwill’s ACL injury.

Colwill‘s potential season-ending injury not only does huge damage to his chances of making England‘s World Cup squad, but also re-opens Chelsea’s need for a left-sided centre-back amid their squad cull.
Chukwuemeka is the latest player to become part of that culling in West London, after the 21-year-old completed a permanent move to Borussia Dortmund after last season’s loan spell with the German side.
Chelsea have sent both Chukwuemeka and Aaron Anselmino to the Westfalenstadion with a loan deal for the latter, and Chukwuemeka posted on Instagram on Tuesday to say his goodbyes to the Blues.

The ex-Aston Villa midfielder said; “Thank you Chelsea FC for everything.
Forever grateful”, and Colwill responded to Chukwuemeka with the simple message of: “My boy”.

Football Insider Verdict
Maresca had long since made clear that Chukwuemeka wasn’t in his long-term plans at Chelsea and even gave his squad number of 17 to Andrey Santos this summer, but Colwill will leave a massive hole.
Chelsea may have cooled their interest in Marc Guehi after links aplenty to re-sign the Crystal Palace captain, but it remains to be seen if Maresca will bid for another left-sided defender in Colwill’s place.
Benoit Badiashile and new arrival Jorrel Hato are both comfortable left-sided centre-backs, but after 43 appearances in all competitions last season, it’s clear Colwill is a player the Blues will struggle to cope without.
