During Liverpool's Premier League trophy parade in the city on Monday, a vehicle ploughed into the crowd, resulting in numerous injuries.
Following the incident, a 53 year old white British man was detained near the scene by Merseyside Police.
Expressing her appreciation for the collective response, Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims remarked: "I want to thank all of the emergency services, partner agencies and members of the public who came to the assistance of the injured following this evening's shocking incident, which we declared a major incident.
This had been a joyous day in Liverpool with hundreds of thousands of people lining the streets to celebrate Liverpool Football Club's victory parade."
A statement confirmed: "A number of people have been injured and were taken to hospital.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer shared that he had been in contact with Liverpool's Mayor regarding the upsetting incident, stressing: "Everyone, especially children, should be able to celebrate their heroes without this horror." In a statement, Starmer expressed his shock: "The scenes in Liverpool are appalling - my thoughts are with all those injured or affected."
