It only had one TV back then, but in the years that followed it became increasingly popular with Liverpool FC fans in the American city, including long-time New Yorkers and Scousers who had moved over.
It is now the home of the Official LFC Supporters Club New York (OLSCNY).
It's just an incredible community that I've been blessed to be with during some of the not so great years.
“It is really an incredible group of people that come and cheer for the club every single week.
I loved the fans, who would come and show up every single week at 11th St Bar.
“That's what kind of brought me into the culture of Liverpool, just seeing these people go absolutely mental every week for their team.
“When I became the owner back in 2018, it coincided with a transformation of the club and seeing us really going back on top of our perch, as you guys say.”
11th St Bar became a permanent home for OLSCNY around 2004.
I would say for your average match, it would probably be 40% Americans that have some connection to England - maybe they studied over there, something like that.
“Then another 40% would be people who either grew up in England, cheering for Liverpool, and then now moved to New York, or even were in one of the different cities in America and supporting there, and they sought out the New York club.
“Then the last 20% would definitely be tourists - people that are planning their trip to New York City and they plan the game right into their week.
“Going back to some of the cup matches last year or when we were about to clinch the championship, I would say 500 to 600 people showed up to queue online to get into this bar that only can hold 125 people.”

But it’s not just the success of the team on the pitch which impresses Dan.
I think that matches with the ethos of the club and the politics in the city of Liverpool.
“The idea that you can be a Scouser even if you've never set foot in L4 is something that Liverpool Football Club does offer to people I think.
That really does help turn people from just casual fans into making this the thing that they want to do all the time.
“Even if you're in New York, rooting for Liverpool Football Club means that you're rooting for a football club that's in Liverpool and you have to understand the city of Liverpool, the sensibilities of the city of Liverpool.
“We do a lot of work around food insecurity and food drives.
