Liverpool are on the verge of a historic Premier League triumph, and with the title all but secured, attention is turning to the city’s plans for a spectacular victory parade.
The celebrations are set to be even more special this year, as fans will finally get to witness the trophy lift at a packed Anfield—an experience denied to them during the pandemic-hit 2019/20 title win.
So when could the title parade be?
While no official details have been published by the club, the parades of 2019 and 2022 provide some precedent to go off of.
The title parade is likely to take place on Monday, May 26th, the day after the Reds’ final league fixture against Crystal Palace at Anfield.
The timing is perfect for supporters, as it falls on a bank holiday, allowing thousands to line the streets without workday worries.
Liverpool City Council is already preparing for what could be the city’s biggest ever parade, with estimates of up to one million fans expected to turn out.
The route is set to mirror the journeys of 2019 (Champions League) and 2022 (FA Cup and League Cup), starting at Allerton Maze in the south of the city and winding north along Queens Drive, past the Fiveways roundabout and Rocket flyover, then along Mill Bank, West Derby Road, Islington, Leeds Street, and The Strand, before finishing at Blundell Street in the city centre.
In 2022, celebrations began at 4pm, with the parade covering a nine-mile route through the city69.
During that event, three open-top buses carried the squad, coaching staff, and their trophies past many of Liverpool’s iconic landmarks before arriving in the city centre.
The festivities were amplified by music from DJ and Liverpool supporter Calvin Harris, who joined the celebrations on one of the buses.
This 13.5km route allows fans from across Liverpool to join the celebrations, with the waterfront once again expected to be a sea of red flares and flags.
Although Liverpool could mathematically clinch the league this weekend against Tottenham, the Premier League trophy presentation will not take place until the final home game of the season against Crystal Palace on May 25th.
This is standard Premier League protocol: the trophy is always presented at the champions’ last home match to ensure the occasion can be shared with home supporters and properly staged.
Back in 2020, Liverpool lifted the trophy in an empty stadium due to COVID-19 restrictions, a bittersweet moment for fans who had waited 30 years for a league title.
This season, the presentation will be in front of a full Anfield, giving a new generation of Reds fans the moment they missed.
