Arne Slot heads into his second season in charge and he will be hoping his flurry of summer spending leads to further success.

For Bournemouth, Andoni Iraola is looking to build on what was an impressive 2024/25 campaign, but he has to deal with the loss of multiple key men in what has been a tough transfer window.

The new Premier League season beckons...

We're just 15 minutes away from kick-off at Anfield.

The players have just finished their pre-match warm-ups.

A reminder that you can follow EXCLUSIVE live coverage of the season opener on talkSPORT, with Adrian Durham your host.

For the first time in 1992, the reigning champions have named four players in their opening day starting XI who are making their Premier League debuts for the club (Kerkez, Frimpong, Wirtz, Ekitike).

On top of that, the Reds have given four players their top-flight debut for the club in the same match for the first time since their opening game of the 2015-16 season against Stoke City.

The five on that day were Nathaniel Clyne, Joe Gomez, James Milner, Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino.

The stats don't stop there either...

Kerkez is just the sixth player to make his Premier League debut for Liverpool against a side he has previously played for.

He follows Boudewijn Zenden (Middlesbrough), Jordan Henderson (Sunderland), Dejan Lovren (Southampton), Rickie Lambert (Southampton), and Fábio Carvalho (Fulham).

Arne Slot paid tribute to Diogo Jota ahead of tonight's game, which is sure to be a very emotional one at Anfield.

Slot told Sky Sports: "The first time we arrive for a session, the first time we play a game, the first time after 20 minutes they sing his song - all these things are difficult.

"It's been really difficult how to act for all of us.

So let us be ourselves and not judge each other, whatever we feel.

"When things were difficult, Diogo helped the club, and me, but even before I arrived, so many times in difficult moments.

"So, we try to get the best out of ourselves, all become a bit Diogo in this difficult time and to act like he always did."

Bournemouth won 2-0 against Leicester in their final game of 2024-25, but haven’t won consecutive Premier League matches since January (vs Newcastle and Nottingham Forest). After winning the league with a 5-1 win against Spurs in April, Liverpool failed to win any of their last four Premier League games in 2024-25 (D2 L2).

So, very good team, good manager and a challenge for us.

“But looking forward to it because an evening game at Anfield is something that everyone is looking forward to it.”

In 33 previous Premier League campaigns, the reigning champions have lost their opening match of the season on just three occasions (W26 D4).

It’s the longest current run without defeat on MD1 of any Premier League side.Bournemouth have taken just one point from 24 available away against Liverpool in the Premier League (W0 D1 L7), losing their last six visits to Anfield by an aggregate score of 23-2.Liverpool have won 11 of their last 12 Premier League games against Bournemouth, with the exception being a 1-0 away loss in March 2023.Copied

The new season is here and that only means one thing - Mohamed Salah is chasing history.

Salah broke record after record last campaign, and he’s already aiming to take a step closer to setting yet another one.

The Egyptian has scored an incredible 105 Premier League goals at Anfield, putting him third in the all-time list of goals scored at a single stadium.

One more tonight would see him equal Sergio Aguero on 106 and move him to within eight of the current record of 114 held by Thierry Henry at Highbury.

There’s a high chance that Salah does find the net too, as he’s scored more Premier League goals against Bournemouth than any other player (11).

And no player has ever scored (9) or contributed to more goals (14) on the top flight’s opening weekend than the Liverpool superstar.
