Hugo Ekitike was sent off after scoring a late winner for Liverpool as they knocked Southampton out of the Carabao Cup.

Alexander Isak capped a timid first half from the hosts with his first goal in Liverpool colours, firing home from Federico Chiesa’s cross after he nicked a loose pass at the back.

A similarly uninspiring second-half showing from the Reds saw Southampton equalise through Shea Charles with a quarter of an hour remaining.

But Chiesa turned provider again, teeing up Ekitike’s winner after being played in behind by a pinpoint long-ball from Andy Robertson.
