One of the less obvious aspects of Liverpool’s forthcoming squad rebuild is the need for them to have enough homegrown players on their books.

Clubs are permitted a maximum of 17 squad members who do not meet the criteria of having been with an English team for at least three years before they turn 21.

With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner fairly likely to leave the club next summer, the number of senior homegrown players will shrink.
