Divock Origi, the Belgian forward, has sealed a move to Italian giant AC Milan after a distinguished spell at Liverpool where he made key contributions in major triumphs including the club’s 2019 Champions League victory and the 2019-20 Premier League title.
Origi joined Liverpool in 2015 from Lille, initially struggling with injuries and a loan spell at Wolfsburg. However, he rose to prominence during the 2018-19 season when he scored crucial goals in the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona, including his iconic finish assisted by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s quick corner that completed an emphatic 4-0 win at Anfield. This goal was voted Liverpool’s greatest ever, underlining its significance in club history.
In the 2019 Champions League final against Tottenham Hotspur, Origi came on as a substitute and scored the decisive second goal late in the match, helping Liverpool secure their sixth European Cup. His timely contributions also helped Liverpool end their 30-year wait for a league title by winning the Premier League the following season, where he played a part in a 99-point campaign. Over his seven years at Liverpool, Origi made 175 appearances and scored 41 goals.
After 2022, Origi's involvement in Liverpool’s first team decreased, but he still added FA Cup and League Cup medals to his trophy cabinet. His final goal for the Reds was memorable, scored against their Merseyside rivals Everton.
Following the expiration of his contract, Origi transferred to AC Milan. As of mid-2024, he is no longer part of Milan’s first team squad and is training with their development squad, Milan Futuro. Origi’s career reflects a player who made unforgettable impacts in key European moments and contributed significantly to one of Liverpool’s most successful eras.
