Young Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah is reportedly under consideration for a long-term contract extension this summer.
The England U-21 international has been excellent with his performances across all competitions this season under pressure situations when senior defenders have been out of action due to injuries.
Quansah donned the senior Reds outfit for the first time at the beginning of this season back in August of 2023 against Newcastle United and since then he never had to look back.
Across all competitions for the Merseyside giants, the 21-year-old has made 30 appearances for the Anfield club and averages 1.2 tackles and 0.9 interceptions per game (stats correct as of 04.05.24) (stats via WhoScored).
Despite such a young age, the LFC youth academy graduate defender has accompanied skipper Virgil van Dijk on many occasions and has come off better than the Dutchman in a few of them.
Liverpool To Offer Contract Extension To Jarell Quansah
Quansah’s poised and commanding performances have made him eligible for a new and improved deal. According to the British media outlet The Mirror, LFC are considering offering him a ‘lucrative new long-term contract’.
The defender’s current contract reportedly offers him £15K-a-week on wages and is set to expire at the end of this season.
The youngster’s impact on the team in his first-ever senior campaign and amid crucial times when key defensive players were unavailable due to injuries, will definitely prompt a significant salary hike.
Even though Arne Slot’s takeover would see a couple of new faces being introduced in the dressing room, preferably a new left-footed centre-back, the Anfield side would like to keep their young faces around for their own development and safety.
The return of loaned-out players like Sepp van den Berg and Nat Phillips will also help improve the squad depth ahead of the new season under Arne Slot.
