Liverpool’s confirmation of squad numbers for their seven summer signings coincides with today’s launch of their highly anticipated Adidas kit partnership.
The Merseyside giants have finally put to bed the speculation surrounding their new arrivals’ jersey numbers, with perhaps the most significant reveal being Florian Wirtz’s inheritance of the iconic number 7 shirt.
The German attacking midfielder, who became Liverpool’s record signing in a deal worth up to £116 million, will don the jersey previously worn by Luis Diaz.
Diaz’s departure to Bayern Munich on Wednesday for £65.5 million has cleared the path for Wirtz to step into one of Anfield’s most prestigious numbers.
The number 7 has been worn by Liverpool legends including Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish, and Luis Suarez, making it a jersey that carries significant weight.
The seven new signings at Liverpool have each chosen their squad numbers for the upcoming season, while both Conor Bradley and Trey Nyoni have decided to switch to new numbers as well.
New squad numbers for 2025-26:
6 – Milos Kerkez
7 – Florian Wirtz
12 – Conor Bradley
22 – Hugo Ekitike
25 – Giorgi Mamardashvili
28 – Freddie Woodman
30 – Jeremie Frimpong
41 – Armin Pecsi
42 – Trey Nyoni
