Liverpool FC Foundation has announced a significant new partnership with The Nippon Foundation that will see the Reds’ charitable arm extend its global reach into Asia.
The announcement came during a high-profile press conference in Tokyo, strategically timed ahead of Liverpool’s pre-season friendly against Yokohama F?
Marinos.
The club’s pre-season tour to Japan represents their first summer visit to the country, building on existing partnerships including their multi-year agreement with Japan Airlines as official airline partner.
With Japan captain Wataru Endo playing for Liverpool and over 4.6 million Reds fans in the country, the timing of the announcement appears strategic.
As part of this new partnership, the two foundations will roll out a large-scale initiative across Japan aimed at addressing social challenges within communities and fostering a culture of mutual support.
Leveraging the influence of the Liverpool FC badge, the LFC Foundation will play a key role in delivering a meaningful programme designed to connect with young people, inspiring and equipping them to enhance their communities and emerge as future leaders.
Together, the LFC Foundation and The Nippon Foundation will focus on children from marginalized backgrounds by providing fresh opportunities that develop skills to confront social issues while also promoting the growth of the sporting environment in Japan.
Matt Parish, chief executive of LFC Foundation, said:
“We are delighted to have partnered with The Nippon Foundation and provide new opportunities for young people in Japan and can’t wait to see the positive outcomes for those who take part in the programme.
“It’s fantastic to be able to extend our international work to Japan and we look forward to working closely with The Nippon Foundation going forward.”
Jumpei Sasakawa, president of The Nippon Foundation, said: “By partnering with LFC Foundation, we hope to further boost our support for children and inspire every child to achieve their hopes and dreams.”
While in Asia, the Reds have been joined by LFC Foundation to facilitate a number of community activities, including soccer clinics in both Hong Kong and Tokyo for young people of all abilities and backgrounds.
