Liverpool Football Club has released an official statement after an incident in the city centre during their open top bus parade.

The Reds first team squad toured the city on Bank Holiday Monday with the Premier League trophy, after being presented with the silverware on Sunday after the final game of the season.

Towards the end of the parade, there was an incident on Water Street as Merseyside Police confirmed that people had been hit by a car following the parade and that a 53-year-old man had been arrested.

Liverpool released a statement following the incident, confirming they are in contact with Merseyside Police, as they shared their 'thoughts and prayers' with those affected by the incident.



It read: "We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident.

"We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident."

Both Everton Football Club and Tranmere Rovers Football Club went on to share Liverpool's statement on social media as they both shared their support for those affected by the incident.

Everton tweeted: "Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this serious incident in our city."

Meanwhile, Tranmere posted: "All of our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the incident in Liverpool city centre this evening."
