Liverpool's Premier League title rivals Arsenal and Manchester City suffered Champions League heartbreak on Wednesday night as they were dumped out of the competition at the quarter-final stage.

The Gunners' spirited 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium last week was not enough of a springboard to claim a first win at the Allianz Arena since 2013 as Joshua Kimmich's header in the second half consigned the North Londoners to a 3-2 aggregate defeat.

Meanwhile, reigning champions Manchester City were dumped out of the competition after a penalty shootout defeat to Real Madrid at the Etihad after the two sides played out a thrilling 4-4 aggregate draw.
