As every Liverpool fan knows manager Arne Slot’s debut season in the dug out at Anfield was a legendary one, and with minimal spending the 46 year old Dutchman led to the team to top spot and the Premier League trophy as we racked up a historic 20th win.
We are not sitting on our laurels either.

It has been a historic summer from our perspective when it comes to the transfer window as prior to deadline day hitting at the start of September, we had spent a phenomenal £400 million on new talent to reshape and bolster the first team squad.
Slot now goes in search of a title defence and additional silverware and even though the 2025/26 campaign is now with us, there is a reason to have a moment of reflection, because in having the summer that we did, we gave skipper Virgil van Dijk the response that he had been looking for when he agreed to sign his new contract at the club.
After a long old season full of rumours of whether or not the 34 year old Dutch international would pen fresh terms (alongside Mohamed Salah and Alexander Trent-Arnold) at the club, he finally put his signature on the all important extension back in April but he had done so having called for the club to make a statement over the summer to outline our true aspirations for sustained success moving forward through the next few years.
With a total spend in excess of £400 million, many fans will have felt like we had just won the jackpot at the top crypto casino and seeing the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekiteke and latterly Alexander Isak, come through the Anfield doors, we have certainly made that statement and surprised plenty in the wider world of football with the ambition that has now been shown.
Speaking ahead of signing his new two year extension, Van Dijk went on record as saying that ‘whatever happens’ in the upcoming summer transfer window, he believed that it needed to be a ‘big summer’ for the club – and he believed that the board needed to be trusted as he knew that they wanted to make that happen – because the singular aim was to ‘challenge for titles in the upcoming years’.
VVD will certainly feel vindicated in his decision to commit to the club for longer having seen exactly how we conducted our business over the last few months, and whilst players are still bedding and settling in and we are hardly firing fully on all cylinders, we are most certainly looking stronger than last year and there is room for further improvement.
We have opened the campaign with three straight wins and we went into the September international break sat back in top spot in the table with a maximum return of nine points, and having already established a small two point buffer zone on second place.
So for now, advantage is ours again but as we all know it is very early stages of the season so far, but there is every reason to be confident that we are well placed to achieve our aim of defending the title and lifting it once again as we head towards next summer.
