Liverpool have wasted no time in replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold, today confirming the signing of Dutch full-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.

The deal, reportedly worth around £30million, was completed today, mere hours after the announcement that Alexander-Arnold would join Real Madrid ahead of the Club World Cup.

Frimpong won the Bundesliga with Leverkusen in 2023-24, playing under the tutelage of Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso.

Speaking after signing, he said it was an easy decision to join Liverpool, the newly-crowned Premier League champions.

“Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer,” he told the club’s website.

“For me, it was like, ‘Whatever you guys do, just get this done’, [speaking to] my agents: ‘Just get this done.’

Addressing the fans, he said: “Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together.

Frimpong learned his craft at Manchester City’s academy and made his senior debut at Celtic before opting for the Bundesliga in 2021.

He has 12 international caps for the Netherlands, and was part of the squad for their Euro 2024 campaign.

Arne Slot has held talks with the player ahead of joining Liverpool, and Frimpong said he is excited to work with his countryman, having heard rave reviews from his Netherlands teammates who worked with him at Feyenoord.

Florian Wirtz, Frimpong’s former Leverkusen teammate, is tipped to make the same move, with Liverpool entering an official bid for him on Friday.
