Liverpool’s U21’s played out an extremely impressive game yesterday.
The academy boasts some extremely talented young players, and they flexed those talents yesterday as the game ended with an eye-watering scoreline.
On Saturday afternoon, Liverpool U21’s beat Celtic 8-0 in a pre-season friendly at the Kirkby Academy.
Kaide Gordon who has broken into the first team’s starting XI in recent years under Jurgen Klopp, has yet to see game-time under Arne Slot after spending the first half of the season on loan at Norwich City, and then the second half at Portsmouth.
The 20-year-old scored a brace during Liverpool’s thrashing, and so did Owen Beck, with Kierna Morrison, Trent Kone-Doherty, Keyrol Figueroa and Oakley Cannonier.
Owen Beck is the other player out of the goalscorers to see competitive action for the Reds, as he made his debut in an EFL Cup game against Preston North End in 2021
Oakley Cannonier is of course known as the ball boy who gave the ball to Trent Alexander-Arnold in rapid fashion as he took that infamous corner-kick against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final to complete a miraculous turn-around.
The U21’s fielded a completely different team each side of the break, but each set of eleven players did the club proud as they put on a terrific display yesterday.
Celtic did have most of their first team up in Scotland for their game against Newcastle at Celtic Park, but it is an impressive scoreline nevertheless.
Celtic’s first-choice players had a much more enjoyable time back in their home stadium, beating Newcastle 4-0.
The full match report of the 8-0 thrashing is on Liverpool’s website here.
