If Liverpool supporters were settling in to watch Real Madrid’s proceedings last night, they surely anticipated spotting Trent Alexander-Arnold among the starters.

Instead, Alexander-Arnold was left on the bench for the clash vs Real Oviedo in La Liga, only entering the fray in the final minutes as the game was already wrapped up 3 goals to Real Madrid’s favour.

The real surprise of the evening, however, was the return of former Liverpool man Ovie Ejaria for the home side.

Nearly two years since he last appeared in a competitive match, the former Liverpool youngster resurfaced against the biggest club in world football.

Ejaria’s journey from Anfield to Oviedo has been easy.

Once hailed as one of Liverpool’s brightest prospects, the midfielder made his senior debut in 2016 under Jurgen Klopp and featured intermittently over the next two seasons.

Following a loan spell at Sunderland in 2018,  Ejaria eventually departed on a free transfer in 2021.

He joined Reading, where he made over 100 appearances before his release in December 2023.

Since then, he has been without a club.

However, after impressing during a trial at Oviedo this summer, the 27-year-old reportedly secured a two-year deal and made his first appearance by coming off the bench for the final 19 minutes against Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, for Trent Alexander-Arnold, it has not been the best of starts at Real Madrid with the Spanish media not happy with his debut last week and was relegated to the bench this time around.
