Liverpool are set to spend big this summer, though fans expecting an easy ride in the transfer window have another thing coming for them.
The Reds are likely to face plenty of competition for players they have deemed worthy of targeting this summer, with Liverpool already rivalling Arsenal for Benjamin Sesko, who is expected to attract plenty of Premier League interest in the window.
Another player who Liverpool are in a race to sign is Dean Huijsen, with the AFC Bournemouth defender enjoying a breakout year with the Cherries having only signed for the south coast English side last summer.
Yet Liverpool’s lack of action in trying to sign Huijsen might have now just given Chelsea a huge advantage in the battle for the Spanish international’s signature.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea have made an official proposal for Huijsen with the Blues taking advantage of Liverpool’s ‘slow’ process in trying to sign the Amsterdam-born defender heading into the transfer window.
Arsenal have also fallen back in the race to sign Huijsen with Chelsea seemingly in the lead for the former Juventus star, an update that could serve as a huge blow for Liverpool in their bid to sign the 20-year-old centre-back.
Indeed, the Reds have been linked with the youngster for some time, with Huijsen viewed as a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool with the Dutch international recently signing his newest and potentially final contract with the Anfield side.

Yet with Chelsea making a proposal for Huijsen, Liverpool now need to play catch-up for the Spanish international, who could favour a move to Stamford Bridge over the Premier League champions this summer.
Huijsen is clearly a top target for Liverpool, with the 20-year-old impressing the Premier League title winners after an exceptional first season in the Premier League, where Bournemouth could sneak into a European spot.
Yet to lose out on Huijsen to Chelsea of all clubs will sting for Liverpool, especially with the Blues having a history of beating the Merseyside giants to targets in recent years, such as Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo.
As the best team in England, Liverpool need to flex their power in situations like this, and Huijsen would prefer a move to Anfield if the Reds made a swoop for the defender even with Chelsea now making their play for the centre-back.
