Liverpool have agreed a deal with Eintracht Frankfurt to sign Hugo Ekitike.
Ekitike is set to become the Premier League champions’ fourth signing of the summer after both clubs struck on a package worth a potential £79 million.
Arne Slot’s side will pay an initial £69M for the France under-21 international with the Bundesliga outfit set to receive up to £10M in future dependent add-ons.
However the add-ons are understood to be contingent on Liverpool’s future success and tied to the player making a significant contribution towards them with the club.
Ekitike is expected to travel to the UK on Tuesday to complete formalities on his move before linking up with his new teammates on their pre-season tour of Asia.
It means that the Reds’ summer spending will surpass a quarter of a billion with Ekitike following the arrivals of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez.
Freddie Woodman has also joined as a free agent while fellow goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili finally linked up with the club after signing for £29M last summer.
The Anfield club’s move for Ekitike came after a tentative approach for Newcastle forward Alexander Isak was turned down despite plans to broker a £120M deal.
Ironically, Eddie Howe’s side had been pursuing a deal for the 23-year-old prior to Liverpool’s interest in their talisman but failed with a fixed £70M offer for the player.
