Liverpool have struck a British transfer record deal for Alexander Isak.

The Premier League champions spent large parts of the summer transfer window locked in a stalemate with Newcastle over their want-away forward.

Isak went public in attempts to force through a move to Anfield after his employers rebuffed a £110 million bid and insisted he was not for sale.

But Arne Slot’s side are now set to land the Sweden international after the Magpies’ signing of Nick Woltemade as his replacement over the weekend.

Talks between the clubs resumed with the Reds set to pay £125M to secure Isak, who will sign a six-year contract ahead of Monday’s 7pm deadline.

The 25-year-old has been a long-term target for Liverpool and takes their incomings to almost £400M in an unprecedented summer of spending.

That figure is set to rise further with negotiations over a deal for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi expected to go down to the transfer wire.

A flat fee of £35M has been tabled to the FA Cup holders for their captain, who is now in the final 12 months of his current deal at Selhurst Park.
