Liverpool has been named among the world’s five most valuable football clubs, with just one of its Premier League rivals sitting above it.

Sports business site Sportico has announced its list of the 50 most valuable clubs in world football right now.

Liverpool features highly on the list, sitting in fourth with a value of $5.11bn.

Manchester United is the only English club to be ranked higher, with a value of $6.2bn.

They come out top of the list, with Real Madrid ($6.06bn) and Barcelona ($5.28bn) sandwiched in between.

Bayern Munich rounds off the top five with a value of $4.8bn.

Six Premier League sides make the top 10, with Manchester City ($4.75bn), Arsenal (£3.91bn), Tottenham ($3.49bn) and Chelsea ($3.47bn) ranked below Liverpool.

The Premier League’s cumulative valuation of $29bn far outweighs the MLS’ $15.1bn though.

Liverpool.com says: If you wanted a clear indication that money isn’t everything in football, you only need to look at Manchester United.

Still considered the most valuable club in the world, its reputation just continues to sink further under the Glazers’ ownership.

It will be interesting to see how Jürgen Klopp’s departure from Liverpool will affect its ranking next year.
